Pope and Indonesian Grand Imam Urge Climate Action and Interfaith Dialogue

The document, “Joint Declaration of Istiqlal 2024: Fostering Religious Harmony for the Sake of Humanity”, named for the mosque at which it was signed, identifies “human exploitation of creation” as a contributor to “climate change” and laments that the “ongoing environmental crisis has become an obstacle to the harmonious coexistence of peoples.”

The document was signed on the third day of Pope Francis' Apostolic Journey to Asia and Oceania and on the fifth day of the Season of Creation.
